Major Project Proposal

I have been working extensively on a poetry chapbook about women in varying veins of madness. Even more so, I teamed up with a professional photographer last semester to translate my overall theseis into photography: conceptrual still images of a female model reflecting psychosis in a series of silhouette poses and angles. The increasing spectrums of light and dark magnified the gray texture of the body and its confinement in a room with absolutely no direct emphasis of face because dementia has no countenance by measure.

With that being said, I want to create a more elaborate and interactive photo story with my shoots, including erratic sounds and internet images that portray the traditional, stereotyope of a hysterical woman that has vividly been described and written about in literature. I also want my voice to narrate the documentary, using my poem for direction and actual clips of my text for analysis.

I want my animation to delve deeper into the relationships between image and text as it relates to subject and point of view manifestations in traditional and contemporary cultures. Hence, woman as subject of society, object of male gaze, third world body, otherly being, hybrid and subaltern of patriarchy.

  2. Thanks Deborah! You know very well my obsessions with feminism and women's issues.
