Sex education for adolescents has become imperative in today’s society. Personally, I don’t feel that the forum used in which to educate should be a matter of concern. It is obvious that there is a great need for this service. Some young adults may feel more comfortable discussing certain personal issues with a random person who is not going to judge them, as oppose to a family member that will be more judgmental and any maybe not as honest.
Working with kids has taught me a great deal. Not all kids are honest regarding their sexual activities and not all kids have the ability to speak to their parents regarding sexual issues for whatever reason. Parents need to also accept that kids at times will prefer to seek help from someone else that is less attached to them.
To be quite frank, how can a parent stop a child from obtaining any information he/she is seeking. It is impossible. Why not take advantage of all the information that is available to your teenager and arrange a sit-down of sorts, to discuss all the avenues. This texting sex line can be a great resource tool not only for teenagers but for parents as well.
As I read Hoffman’s article I was much more interested in the comments posted by the readers. About 90% of the comments supported this idea and recognized the need to fill this void. In this day and age things are different, the information super highway has exploded with information due to accessibility and mobility. Although, some parents are concerned with the regulation of this information, they don’t deny that if done correctly, it may just work and prove to be beneficial.
