Life in the Digital Age

1- People do not normally meet organically anymore, especially the older you get (because "time" is running out). They just log onto the web, punch in their information and they can be matched up to other profiles. If you like who you have been matched up with, you can go out on a date with this person whose profile you liked. Whenever I sit and watch TV, theres about 10 ads for these types of websites. "Leads to more dates... Leads to more marriages." My mom met her husband now through the use of online dating, and so did all of her friends... So I guess these ads aren't lying.

2- Netflix is the reason why (I believe) Blockbuster and Hollywood videos went out of style. Why wouldn't these companies lose money when Netflix is so easy? Why walk/drive to a store for a movie rental when you do not have to get up at all to watch movies? I love netflix. I can just log onto my account (which is also linked to my Playstation 3) pick movies I want to watch and instantly stream it to my television and I have a movie night. It cuts back on travel time. Who doesn't like instant gratification? Plus, I get movies delivered straight to me... and my outgoing mail box is right out in front of my building.

3) PEAPOD is my saving grace. I can log onto to my account with peapod... and click on what I would buy at the grocery store... but instead I buy it online. After I am done shopping for all that I need, I pick a delivery time and they deliver right to my door for a 7 dollar delivery fee. It's fantastic. I do not have to go to the store. I do not have to deal with crowds. I do not have to deal with going around the whole store looking for an item. I do not have to deal with lines... or holiday hysteria and I do not have to deal with lugging all of the groceries that I need by my lonesome self because I do not that the muscles for it. Life is good with peapod.

  1. Peapod makes me nervous.

Strangers picking out your fruit? They might do something to the strawberries.

  3. Cool presentation -- I love the way it looks, and your take on digital life. Aren't strangers always picking out your strawberries at some level? Having picked my own fruit in Idaho for several summers I have a very different impression of the food chain.
