Windows Movie Maker/YouTube Collabo

I was extremely inspired by Craig Stroupe's "Visualizing English" so I created a movie based on the dichotomies presented in the article: public and private; internal and external; self and reader; computer and world/audience. I tried to very candid in creating a tale of origins to explain the gradual progression and transformation of landscapes between the textual that Lanham illustrates as alphabet and the icon in terms of visual forms that is centralized by popular culture with the association of technology, which I denoted with pen and paper, typewriter and computer graphics.

In my opinion, the end result being not a forgotten culture of the written page or obselete form of the written word, instead the focus becomes more clearly concentrated on the process than the actual product, because whether it be a binded book or e-book, the element of literacy is still the overall idea and goal. Thefore, the final slides of my movie highlight an equal sign, which is conducive to no censorship and a catalyzing form of authoring and publishing.

Hope you enjoy!!

  1. The images tell the story--both are very powerful--do you think sound of some sort would add another meaningful layer if uniting the aural with the visual?

  2. Yes, I agree with Deborah. It's really interesting to look at (and I'm impressed by your creative impulses!) but I felt I needed some description of the images so that I could work with/against your narrative.
