Response to "On Lionel Kearns"

I am confused about On Lionel Kearns.

It was a...unique site experience. I have never encountered a site like this. It’s minimalist and only uses text/letters/numbers, but the text is designed. The welcome page text is designed similar to an arrow or something of the sort. I am not sure how I feel about the design. It’s a little destabilizing because I expect the typical navigation bar I am used to seeing on most sites. This usually contains homepage with a site map of some sort. Even with the arrows, I wasn’t sure how to navigate efficiently back and forth on this site.

I am not sure if this is because of the site coding/layout or my computer, but it kept crashing. I wonder….

  1. The site sounds fascinating I wish I could have opened it--on at least one of the three browsers and two plugins I tried and failed.

  3. "On Lionel Kearns" - what is the message! My computer spent a bit of time downloading Adobe Shockwave, then "on Lionel Kearns" thing appeared, and I spent more time sort of mezmerized by the screen with numbers, letter, some text on 2-dimensional flat planes piling up seeming to come toward me, eventually I grew very very impatient and clicked the screen at which point I with relief moved to a number one and so on. It was a short piece I think unless I missed part of it
I checked wikipedia to try to find out more about Lionel Kearns, Canadian poet and teacher. Here is one of his poems:
    Contra Diction
    Lionel Kearns
From: Pointing. Toronto: Ryerson Press, 1967.

    At worst I think poetry
only a hobby, an activity similar to
    the youthful assembly
    of silent model airplanes:
    ——my mother commenting: "So
    constructive and it teaches something
too." My father at his guns,
    clearing his throat in reply.

Lit majors, do you know anything about him? And Stace, another LOL for the Bush pix.

  5. I am "glad" that others are as confused as I am with this site. I feel the camaraderie of learning and experiencing technology in a group. : )

Jane, I too wonder what the message is. Is this supposed to be the "anti-site"...anti digital convention?

I think President Bush paints the best picture of what confusion is. He cracks me up!

  6. Great, I don't feel as bad now. Many of you couldn't figure what the Lionel Kearns thing was either. I thought it was me. I felt just like the picture for a moment there

  7. This picture altered the message your text conveyed to me. I can't keep my eyes focused on what you wrote; the photo is like a train wreck.

Next week you should do a photo editing presentation using this picture.
