The 5 blogs that I think are cool:
http://newwordsmiths.wordpress.com/
I receive subscriptions from Poets and Writers. Occasionally I check their blogs although I don't have have a blog there or have never posted anything.
http://www.playbill.com/playblog/
Again, Playbill is another site I check frequently for casting notices, plays info, actors' info. I often check their blogs, unfortunately seldom contributed

I'm a fan of the New Yorker magazine. I'm often on their blogs and at times a contributor
http://ccinsider.comedycentral.com/2010/07/06/the-women-of-the-daily-show-speak/
This is the Comedy Central blog. I mostly check out comments posted for the The Daily Show with Jon Stewart
http://theblackatheist.blogspot.com/
I stumbled upon this blog just a couple of weeks ago. I was surprised to see such a group exist. I haven't researched their site in great detail but it will definite have my attention from this point forward
You're an atheist?
ReplyDeleteThis exchange is a great example of the pros and cons of exposing yourself in an online world.
ReplyDeleteThierry lists "The Black Atheist" as a blog he now follows. A classmate wants to know if he is a black atheist. Thierry now has to decide if he wants to open up and share his religious views with a classmate who may or may not share his views because he was forced to complete a class assignment online instead of on paper where previously only his professor and not the whole class would have access to his thoughts.
On the plus side, his post could open up a lovely and stimulating conversation with someone else that he may never have had before because it was too personal or tangential to every day conversation.
On the negative side, he could feel like he has divulged personal information that he is not all that eager to have a "public" discussion about.
Or... because he has not responded online to the comment, his classmates may now think he is indeed a black atheist even if he's not just because he expressed interest in the site.
Or... someone who is a fervent Christian could be really offended b/c they now believe he's an atheist based on his blog entry and they could limit future conversations with him based on their perceptions of what an atheist is like without taking the time to get to know him first.
Which is better?
